Tirra Lirra

Pink Live Forever

In 2007 Tirra Lirra set out to write their first LP Pink Live Forever, which continues on a trajectory set upon in the later songs on the 2006 Breathe Bodies E.P.(Static Station); in combining elements from both the Avante and Pop music camps.

“We Are All Strays” sends the record off with heartbeat like bass beats, merging with melody, and accented by samples of ambient voices and strings. “Stinngybadly” mixes garage rock tendencies with modern tribal drumming, while “Mystery Eyes” turns the other direction, with shrill guitars accented by delayed vocal melodies and backed by deconstructed beats. “Flutter” finishes off side one with its darkened refrains. The title track, “Pink Live Forever”, gallops around sparks of synths, opened up to a multi layered chorus, and ends on a tropical groove. “Fever Dream’s” minimal industrial sound feels like it’s about to break at its seams, while the swirling pop of “Coral” soothes the listener into the final track of the LP, “Lightning Luxury”.
Tirra Lirra recorded Pink Live Forever in early 2008 with Griffin Rodriguez (Obey Your Brain, Icy Demons) at his Shape Shoppe studio in Chicago.

For some reason this half-and-half approach strikes me as even more perverse than making uncut noise—it’s like the band has taken beard stroker art music, put it behind the wheel of a sports car, and told it to go nuts.” -Miles Raimer, Chicago Reader

While the music is danceable and energetic the record also fills a void I’ve personally felt for awhile—when was the last time you had to, HAD TO, listen to an album lying in bed?” -Devin King
